Fil Rouge Capital invests in Tummly, The Ultimate Foodie App, with a 1M HRK investment!

April 2, 2020 | By Sonja Zigic

Tummly, founded by Matija Špes back in 2019 as a simple web poll about the best pizzas and burgers in small towns like Čakovec and Varaždin is now, with the new investment from FRC, growing into an impressive foodie app with over 15000 members, 25 food categories and over 20000 food rates and pics.

While other review apps and platforms offered users to rate the restaurants as a whole (its staff, ambiance, price, location…) Tummly’s focus was, is, and will remain on one thing only – food, and how good it was on a scale on 1 to 10.

Tummly users do not rate the kindness of the staff or how unique the ambiance of the place is, but only how good the food is.

Founder Matija Špes has always stated: “You use Google, Yelp or TripAdvisor when you want to find out which is the best restaurant in the city that also offers pizza. You use Tummly to find which restaurant in the city has the best pizza. Yes, it will take us a year to get to that point when people can actually use our app to see a formed ranking list and find out where the certain dish is officially the best, but once we do get there, the Tummly app will be recognized worldwide as “The Food Oscar”.

Guys at Fil Rouge Capital saw Tummly’s unique selling point and the energy in the team behind the app and the deal was made.

“We also started off with some pretty solid traction which proved, not only to investors but to us and anyone who was skeptical about the idea that the “food approach” along with some trendy features can attract a high number of the user. That made it a lot easier to raise the funds. Traction.” –  says Špes.

Tummly app already offers users the ability to add food pics, leave short comments about the meal,  follow their friends, like their pictures, add new venues, but the new investment will enable them not only to develop the app further but to grow beyond their home market. Vietnam with its 100  mil. the population is Tummly’s next destination.

Tummly CTO Alen Šebalj confirms: “The pandemic and the closed restaurants really hit us hard and slowed everything down, but we are now finally just a few weeks away from launching in Vietnam.

On the other hand, the lockdown period gave us time to lock ourselves in, work on the app, code,  design, redesign, test, adapt, add and there is some really impressive app features coming out this summer at the end of which we are also planning the release of our Tummly Business App! ”
